The photographer is on the forward superstructure looking forward and to port showing the foremast ratlines, number 2 lifeboat and the port forward samson post. At anchor on the left and seen from off her port beam is the P & O Lines passenger cruise ship Strathmore (1935). The South Mole of the Dockyard is on the right with the town and Signal Hill beyond it. Willis Battery peak is in the centre of the picture.
