A full length portrait of a Laplander man standing by the prow of a boat at Hammerfest, Norway. He is in national costume complete with axe in his belt. The sharp bow of the boat is decorated with reindeer antlers. A number of buildings are in the background but the town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived. A vertical format negative.
