The harbour and the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway.

The harbour and the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking east from the passenger cruise ship landing steps showing a coastal passenger/cargo steamer, a small motor vessel and motor fishing vessels in the harbour. A warehouse building on wooden piles is on the right and beyond it is the steeple of St. Michael's Church. A new building is being erected on the east quay. The buildings are all of wood construction. In the right background is the Sadlen. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
