A street scene on the east side of the town at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking north-east along the street in wet weather showing the Dame Confektion shop on the left with a family walking away on the pavement. Shops on the right include the premises of H. Bjerke, Ch. Goldmanns wool shop and Annette Westad's clothing shop. The steeple of St. Michael's Church is in the centre. All of the buildings are constructed of wood. The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
