The town and harbour at Hammerfest, Norway.
The town and harbour at Hammerfest, Norway. The photographer is looking west-south-west from the slopes of the Sadlen. St. Michael's Church is on the left and nearer the centre is the Parish Church. Two of the warehouses fronting the harbour are occupied by Feddersen & Nissen and on the right is a building on a wooden piled pier with Nissen Bunkers Salt on it. All of the buildings are of wooden construction. Beyond St. Michael's Church in the background is the passenger cruise ship Kungsholm (1928). The town of Hammerfest was totally destroyed by German forces in early 1945 and none of the buildings in this photograph survived.
