The South Harbour, Pohjoisesplanadi and the Uspenskin Eastern Orthodox Cathedral at Helsingfors, Finland.
The South Harbour, Pohjoisesplanadi and the Uspenskin Eastern Orthodox Cathedral at Helsingfors, Finland. The photographer is looking north-by-east from the north end of Eteläranta showing the stalls of fish sellers in the foreground. The obelisk in the market square commemorates Empress Alexandra's first visit to Helsinki in 1833 and is cut from red granite. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and should be topped by a bronze globe and two headed eagle symbol of Imperial Russia but these are missing. A few small wooden craft are in the harbour.
