Ships Cover for Edgar class first class protected cruisers.
Ships Cover for the Edgar class first class protected cruisers HMS Crescent (1892), HMS Edgar (1890), HMS Endymion (1891), HMS Gibraltar (1892), HMS Grafton (1892), HMS Hawke (1891), HMS Royal Arthur [ex-Centaur] (1891), HMS St George (1892) and HMS Theseus (1892). The vast majority of the documentation relates to alterations made to the class towards the end of their peacetime service careers. Most of the papers relate to alterations made to convert some of the ships to training and depot vessels, although there are also copies of reports of the ships' performance on active service and recommendations for subsequent modification in light of experience gained. Other items include statements of dimensions and weights (some in comparison with the newer Diadem class cruisers), schemes of complement, changes made to armament and ammunition allowance, brief reports of gun and new equipment trials and stability calculations. The earliest papers date from March 1902 and end in February 1910 (with one anomalous scheme of complement dated March 1918).
