Ships Cover for the Redbreast class composite gunboats HMS Goldfinch (1889), HMS Lapwing (1889), HMS Magpie (1889), HMS Redbreast (1889), HMS Redpole (1889), HMS Ringdove (1889), HMS Sparrow (1889), HMS Thrush (1889) and HMS Widgeon (1889). The documentation mainly relates to the allocated armament and ammunition allowance, statements of dimensions and weight estimates, complement of boats to be carried, some correspondence with the builders and contractors, miscellaneous constructional details (including materials used), stability calculations and schemes of complement for the vessels later in their service lives. Additionally, there are detailed reports of the post-completion experimental cruises of the Goldinch, Lapwing and Ringdove. The papers commence in August 1887 and end in July 1910, by which time all save Magpie, Ringdove, Sparrow and Thrush had been sold.
