'Taking horses on board a Transport'
A photograph taken from the deck looking up the brow from the ship to the shore at Bombay [Mumbai]. A turbaned Indian is leading a horse down the brow towards the photographer on board. An officer in white uniforn and solar topee is standing to the right of the brow and an Indian in a white turban and jacket stands on the left. Another European and Indian, obscured by the rails of the brow, are standing behind the horse. A two-storey building with a tiled roof is in the background.
The photograph is captioned in white ink 'Taking horses on board a Transport'.
Robert Wiles Simms joined the passenger/cargo ship Bandra (1913) at Glasgow on 4 March 1914 and departed for Bombay [Mumbai] on 12 March 1914. The ship was used during the war as a troop and horse transport ship.
