Dutch Men-of-War and Fishing Boats in Harbour

A lively interpretation of shipping and trade in a harbour. Fishing boats have been depicted on the left, and two Dutch men-of-war in the centre and right. The ship in the centre, flying the Dutch flag, is in full sail. The ship on the right, also flying the Dutch flag, lies at anchor, with carved figures visible on her ornately decorated stern. A small boat laden with people is rowing out towards the ship on the right. On the quay of the harbour, to the left, a variety of figures are engaged in commercial transactions, some conveying baskets to join those already on the dockside. The painting is signed with the monogram 'CW'. (Framed)
