Jamaican stall-keepers with coils of tobacco

A black and white landscape photograph of Jamaican stall-keepers with coils of tobacco. Seven people, mostly men, can be seen seated in a line. All wear hats and three of them hold umbrellas. A similar number of square wooden tables are set out in front of them, each with a heaped coil of rope-like tobacco on its top. Two objects with rounded, pommel-like tops - possibly bollards - can be seen amongst the stalls. The stalls are positioned at the side of a road, separated from it by a stone curb. Two people are stood on the road looking at the stalls; the one nearest the camera is a woman in a white or pale dress reaching down to her ankles, showing bare feet below. She has a patterned scarf covering her hair a round basket on her head piled over the brim with a white object (possibly textiles). Behind her is a man in trousers and jacket, also looking down at the stalls and also barefoot. The figure of a boy can be seen between these two, in the background, possibly leaning to see the camera. Behind the stall-keepers are other people are sat or stood between them and metal railings. This includes several women and a child. A tree trunk is also visible in this area, with at least one (unreadable) sign or poster stuck to it. Other pedestrians and some sort of building can be seen in the top left of the image. Original caption (handwritten in ink beneath): ‘Market at Kingston Jamacia / Tobacco’.
