View of hedge, trees and leaves. Annotated

A sketch of the edge of a riverbank juxtaposed with close up sketches of leaves, in soft graphite with some quicker hatching on the edges of the composition. The composition indicates that it might possibly be a view from above into the reflections of the water, which would explain the various sizes of the leaves and the defined edge of the composition. The notes confirm that the leaves are floating on the water and that the rest of the sketch is a reflection. The sketch has been numbered 1 to 9, with annotations assembled on the right hand side: “1. This light is rather softer at top edge and more uneven than bottom edge and color of sky. 2. Colour of sky. 3. Not quite as dark as 4 5. Leaf in water 6. Scarcely shows through dark reflection of 7 but other is very distinct. 8 reflection of elm, rather brownish than 3 and exactly the colour of the bottom. 9. Bottom edge of rock shows here” Dated October 26th. Bound with PAG0613-PAG0626, PAG0628-PAG0641.
