Nelson's old flagship, the 'Foudroyant', driven ashore at Blackpool, 16 June 1897
The ‘Foudroyant’ became a guardship in 1820 and a training ship in 1862. In the latter capacity she was finally sold to Mr. Wheatley Cobb, but she was wrecked, as is shown in this picture, in 1897 near Blackpool.
‘Foudroyant’ is shown in port-quarter view, tipped over somewhat onto her starboard side, and in a considerable state of disrepair in the sands, with the town front as a backdrop. She is clearly identifiable via the name painted on her stern counter.
