Alexander Hood. Vicount Bridport 0B.1814
A half-length portrait of Alexander Hood (1726–1814) in admiral’s undress uniform, 1787–1795, with the ribbon (mostly hidden under his coat) and star of the Order of the Bath and the Glorious First of June gold chain and medal, extending his right arm. The portrait is surrounded by an octagonal frame. Lettered beneath the image: ‘Alexander Hood. Vicount Bridport OB. 1814.’ This print was published in the 1849 edition of Edmund Lodge’s ‘Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain’ (London: Henry G. Bohn, 1850), volume 8. The portrait is after Lemuel Francis Abbott’s oil painting of around 1795, now in the Yale Centre for British Art. (Updated May 2019.)
