Medal commemorating Barcelona relieved, 1706. Obverse: Bust of King Charles III of Spain in a long wig and armour mantled, collar and Golden Fleece (right). Legend: 'CAROLVS . III . D . G . REX HISPAN . ARCH . AVST.' (Charles III, by the Grace of God, King of Spain, Archduke of Austria.) Reverse: View of the city and pier of Barcelona, sun eclipsed above; abandoned cannon, French in flight (right). Legend: 'VNIVS LIBERATIO ALTERIVS OPPRESSIO.' (The deliverance of one, the overwhelming of the other.) Exergue: 'FVGA GALL . ET ECLIPS . EOD . DIE . 12 . MAII . 1706' (The flight of the French and the eclipse on the same day, 12 May 1706). Inscription (on edge): 'O NIMIVM DILECTE DEO, TIBI MILITAT AETHER.' (Oh, well beloved of God, Heaven fights for you.) (School of Nuremberg)
