Mug
Mug, transfer-printed and hand coloured with a portrait of Admiral Sir George Bridges Rodney (1719-1792) similar to a later engraving by Edward Harding, published 1June 1800. Rodney is wearing a red coat with yellow facings, there is a laurel wreath above his head. The portrait is surrounded by flags and naval trophies. Inscription: 'Sr Geo. Bridges Rodney Bart.' The mug is possibly contemporary with Rodney's defeat of a Spanish squadron under Langara in 1780. The handle is partly missing.
