Mug
Mug transfer-printed and hand coloured with a portrait inscribed: 'Sr Geo. [Bridges] Rodney Bart' similar to a later engraving by Edward Harding published June 1 1800. It is coloured red, yellow and green, the coat being red with yellow facings. The subject is Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney (1719-1792), shown with a laurel wreath above his head and surrounded by naval trophies. The mug is possibly contemporary with Rodney's defeat of a Spanish squadron under Langara in 1780.
