Warrior (1860)
No scale given, but measurements correspond to 1:48. Drawing titled 'Plan of Main Deck for the Iron Cased Frigate of 36 Guns'.
The plan shows the main deck of the Warrior (1860), a broadside ironclad.
This plan is a proposal drawing drafted some three months before the ship was ordered. As such, the internal compartments are well-defined, but aside from the presence of 17 guns (type undefined save that they are muzzle-loaders) in the portside battery, detail of fittings is lacking. The illustration of the guns is used to demonstrate how those placed within the armoured 'citadel' would enjoy a 50 degree arc of fire when run out, while those in the unarmoured ends would have an 87 degree traverse.
There are four signatures on the plan belonging to the following:
Rear Admiral Sir Baldwin Wake Walker [Surveyor of the Navy in 1859]
Isaac Watts [1st Assistant Surveyor in 1859]
Joseph Large [2nd Assistant Surveyor in 1859]
James Graff [Draftsman 1st class in 1859]
The plan was drafted by James Graff at the Admiralty, Whitehall.
