Launch of battleship HMS ‘King George V’ built by Armstrong, Whitworth & Co. Ltd., Sir W.G. and Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd., Newcastle on Tyne, from No. 2 berth on 21st February 1939 by HM King George VI. Yard Number 10.

Bound photograph album measuring 16“x 12” , containing 30 leaves, with 59 photographs (items 1 to 13 are by Parry & Son, South Shields, the others by press and press-agency photographers identified by captions. Dry mounted.. Generally in good condition. Title page reads “Launch of HMS “King George V” by His Majesty the King, on Tuesday, 21st February, 1939”.
1. General view of port bow and multitude assembled for the launch. Several cine cameramen ready at the right hand side.
2. Close-up of the launch party, with King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Sir Charles Trevelyan, Lord Lt. of Northumberland , is to the King’s right. Mr Ernest Brown, Minister of Labour, is at the extreme right of the photo.`
3. Similar to 2. Sir Thomas Inskip is to the Queen’s right, and Sir Charles Craven to the King’s left.
4. Another view – bottle ready.. Captain J H Godfrey is nearest the camera, at the left of the photo. Mr A A Jamieson, Chairman of Vickers, is to the right of the King (as seen). The next figure is Mr J Callander.
5. Bottle gone – some hats being waved. Captain J H Godfrey R.N. on the King’s left with Sir Charles Craven next to him. Lord Louis Mountbatten has the next peaked hat to the right.

28. Launch party - the King is saluting. Sir Thomas Inskip is at the left, as seen in the photo, with Sir Stanley Goodall between him and the Queen. Lord Stanhope is behind the King’s right elbow, with Lord Louis Mountbatten behind the King. General Gort , C.I.G.S., is below Sir Stanley at the lower level. Sir Malcolm Campbell might be the figure between the two top hats at the lower level.
