Launching casket
Launching casket of HMS 'Neptune' 1909. An oak box carved with Neptune in a chariot drawn by seahorses accompanied by a triton. The sides of the box are carved with flowers and foliage. The interior is lined with blue velvet and contains a mallet and brass chisel. The mallet is carved with roses, thistles and shamrock. Inscribed on a brass plate on the front of the casket: 'HMS Neptune launched at Portsmouth by HRH the Duchess of Albany.' Carved on the mallet: 'HMS Neptune 30th Septr. 1909'.
