Royal Museums Greenwich are introducing a new £2 ticket to the famous tea clipper Cutty Sark for visitors receiving Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance.
For further information about the offer including how many people you can claim £2 tickets for and how to redeem the offer, read the questions and answers below. Please make sure to bring the correct documentation along to your visit.
Please note that we also have discounts available for Young People (aged 16-24) and Students, as well as free tickets for Blue Light Card holders and a free companion ticket - a person accompanying a disabled visitor. You can book these discounted and free tickets here. Discounts are also available with an Art Pass, Museums Association membership and English Heritage membership.
Why are you offering this new ticket?
We know how hard things are for many people on low incomes right now. We hope this offer will allow even more people to experience our wonderful sites.
Who is eligible?
£2 tickets for admission to Cutty Sark are available to anyone in receipt of the following:
- Universal Credit - show your Universal Credit statement, either on your mobile app or a paper copy
- Working Tax Credit - HMRC letter confirming Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit - HMRC letter confirming Child Tax Credit
- Pension Credit – Department of Work and Pensions letter of confirmation
- Employment and Support Allowance - Department of Work and Pensions letter of confirmation
- Income Support - Department of Work and Pensions letter of confirmation
- Jobseeker’s Allowance - Department of Work and Pensions letter of confirmation
You can claim £2 tickets for up to six people per household. Tickets are £2 for each person in the household. Only one person per household needs to show supporting documents.
What's included in the £2 ticket offer?
Your £2 ticket is for standard admission to Cutty Sark. Tickets for Under 4s and a person accompanying a visitor with disabilities are free.
Separate paid-for events/experiences such as Cutty Sark Rig Climb Experience, Afternoon Tea, under 5s Ship Mates workshops and evening events at the ship are not included in the £2 ticket offer.
Please note that sometimes we may need to close parts of sites for conservation or maintenance work.
How do I book £2 tickets?
You can reserve and pay for up to six tickets (online bookings only). Under 4s tickets and companion tickets are free.
Then collect your printed tickets from Cutty Sark's admission desk on the day of your visit. Please do check the site’s opening hours before your visit to Royal Museums Greenwich.
When collecting tickets, please remember to bring the following:
- Your reservation - this is the PDF that you will receive when you completed your online booking.
- Proof of your eligibility - please check the list below.
- Proof of ID - to check that the person who booked the tickets is present (e.g. a utility bill, bank card, bank statement, or work ID)
All supporting documents and identification should be recent and up to date.
If you don't have proof of receiving benefits, you can request a letter from the government - find out how to do this here.
Tickets must be reserved in advance to guarantee entry and avoid disappointment. Visitor numbers are limited, and some dates and timeslots can sell out in advance.
If you can't find £2 tickets for the date you wish to book, this date is sold out, but further dates are available.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to purchase both £2 tickets and standard price admission tickets in the same booking.
If you want to book a mix of £2 and standard tickets, please book the £2 tickets first (as these sell out quickly) and then separately purchase the standard admission tickets for the same date and/or timeslot.
Can I book £2 tickets for more than one site?
No. We are piloting this new offer first at Cutty Sark. We hope to add the Royal Observatory Greenwich to the offer soon.
Visits to the National Maritime Museum and the Queen’s House are free. Please do check opening hours before you visit.
Can the £2 ticket be used over more than one day?
No, each ticket is only valid for a single day. Please do choose your date carefully.
Can I purchase £2 tickets on the day?
Yes, but subject to availability. To guarantee entry and avoid disappointment we recommend you book in advance. Visitor numbers are limited, and some dates and timeslots can sell out in advance. Make sure you bring a proof of benefit letter and ID.
Do companions for disabled visitors still go free if I book a £2 ticket?
Yes, Royal Museums Greenwich offers free admission to companions accompanying disabled visitors.
Can I change my £2 ticket?
£2 tickets are non-refundable, and we are unable to make any changes to your booking.
During your visit
What supporting documents do I need to bring with me?
- One form of supporting document to show eligibility for this offer:
Universal Credit - show your Universal Credit statement, either on your mobile app or a paper copy
Pension Credit - DWP letter of confirmation
Working Tax Credit - HMRC letter confirming Working Tax Credit
Child Tax Credit - HMRC letter confirming Child Tax Credit
Employment and Support Allowance - DWP letter of confirmation
Income Support - DWP letter of confirmation
Jobseeker's Allowance - DWP letter of confirmation
- Additional identification to confirm the name on the supporting documents. This does not need to be a photo ID: bank card, bank statement, utility bill or work ID is fine.
- Your reservation document - this is a PDF that you will receive when you book your tickets online.
Can I show my supporting documents on my phone?
Yes, but you will also need to show another proof of ID to confirm your name. This does not need to be a photo ID: a bank card, bank statement, utility bill or work ID is fine.
If supporting documents saved on a phone cannot be read due to a cracked screen you will be required to bring paper copies. The same is true for a device without any charge.
Why are you able to offer £2 tickets?
As an independent charity that is committed to making our sites as welcoming and accessible for everyone, we charge for tickets to fund programmes and schemes, like our £2 tickets, so those who have barriers to visiting our sites can still visit.
You can find more information about the work we do as a charity on our conservation and collections, communities and schools pages.
Why aren't these £2 tickets available to more people?
People must receive Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance to be eligible for these tickets.
We know this excludes many people who do not receive these benefits, but still are unable to afford the cost of visiting our sites. As a charity, Royal Museums Greenwich is committed to making our sites as open and accessible as possible, and we are dedicated to enriching people’s understanding of the sea, the exploration of space, and Britain's role in world history.
The National Maritime Museum and Queen’s House are free to visit. Don't forget to check out Women of the RNLI for free at the National Maritime Museum until 1 December 2024.
