Come along to the National Maritime Museum this Easter and enjoy fantastic activities inspired by the natural world and museum collections.

All workshops and performances are free with no need to book in advance. Activities are happening every day during the Easter holidays - check out the latest event schedule below. Our fabulous Museum character actors will also be roaming the galleries every Saturday too.

As well as these free activities at the National Maritime Museum, there's so much more for families to discover in Greenwich this Easter

The Cove outdoor playground is open every day, historic ship Cutty Sark is hosting a maritime-themed Easter egg trail, and the Royal Observatory is home to epic planetarium shows and science demonstrations. Storytelling and craft workshops meanwhile are free for all visitors to the Queen's House. Start planning your family day out in Greenwich today!

Sunday 6 April

Leaf rubbing

11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Learning Space

What shapes and patterns do leaves make? Let’s find out together in this fun leaf-rubbing workshop, where you’ll work with nature to create beautiful artworks inspired by the plants and flowers at Greenwich Park.

Monday 7 April

Roo in my suitcase!

30-minute performances starting at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm | Pacific Encounters gallery

Poetry, storytelling and singing with Kangaroo and Dingo! Join a performance-based workshop that give voices to the Kangaroo and Dingo paintings found inside the Pacific Encounters gallery. The best part? You’ll get to join in too with lots of fun movement! Make sure you arrive in the gallery ahead of the show start time.

Tuesday 8 April

Penguin pebble pride

11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Learning Space

Penguins are a beautiful symbol of pride in polar research, from the penguins seen by Captain Scott on his Terra Nova Expedition in 1911 to the famous penguin couple of Central Park Zoo. They’re also expert gift givers, finding the perfect pebbles every time to give to their penguin partners. Decorate your very own penguin pebbles to give to your loved ones, or show some self-love and keep it for yourself!

Wednesday 9 April

Coded corsages

Did you know that flowers can hold hidden messages? Inspired by the fabulous flowers found around the National Maritime Museum and the Queen’s House, you’ll learn about the fascinating art of Victorian floriography and create your own tissue paper bouquet with your own hidden message!

Friday 11 April

Polar spiders

11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Learning Space

Unleash a web of creativity by creating your very own polar spiders, inspired by the Polar Worlds gallery. Make your spiders using craft materials and straws and then photograph them in a shadowy world, whilst learning about these web-tacular creatures and their changing habitats at the bottom of the sea.

Saturday 12 April

Painted posies

11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Learning Space

Have you ever wanted to name a new species of flower? Here’s your chance in this creative painting workshop, where you’ll be able to design your own flowers using pulled string, paint and pencils. At the end you’ll give your flowers their own unique name like the brilliant botanist that you are.

Sunday 13 April

Pocket-sized pirate pets

11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Learning Space

Ahoy animal lovers! Did you know that sailors used to bring cats, dogs, monkeys and even lizards on board ships? In this creative crafting workshop, you’ll learn about the history of seafaring pets before making your very own pocket-sized pirate pet to take home.

Monday 14 April

Aesop’s animal storytelling

30-minute timed sessions starting at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm | Learning Space

Join us for a magical storytelling adventure, where we bring Aesop’s Fables to life with movement, music and sensory play! Listen, touch and explore as you meet wise wombats, clever kangaroos and daring dingoes with timeless tales. A fun and interactive storytelling session, perfect for little explorers under 5.

Tuesday 15 April

Plant-powered paper ships

11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Learning Space

Did you know you can build boats from plants? From the mighty wooden ships of the past to Fijian canoes made with coconut husk fibres, plants have played a big role in shipbuilding. In this workshop, you will craft with different plant materials like wooden lolly sticks, bamboo, cork and raffia to make your very own beautiful boats. The best part? You’ll test them on water to see if they float!

Dingo and roo puppet making

Get a bounce in your step in this puppet making workshop Inspired by George Stubbs’ famous painting The Kongouro from New Holland. Create your own dingo and roo puppets, complete with moving parts.
