Letters from Ella Ambrose to John Short July to September 1935.

On 3rd July she writes about a trip she took for work with two colleagues, and the terrible night they had after their car broke down in the middle of nowhere at 11pm. On 7th July, she mentions the Hamble Regatta, and how much she enjoys swimming in the lido after work. In mid-July, Ambrose writes about the heat wave England is experiencing, how she is getting into the habit of smoking: 'Working with so many men I think encourages the habit as they continually offer them to me'. On 22nd July she writes about going to the pictures and missing the last bus back home, and the ensuing adventure. 31st July she mentions her little nephew Terrence asking if his uncle (Short) could send him a racing car. During the first half of August, Ambrose is very busy at work as the holidays are fast approaching. From 17th to 31st August, Ambrose is on holiday in Jersey, and encloses a postcard depicting Mont Orqueil, Castle Gorey. On 4th September she is miserable, back at work after the holiday, and feeling ill. She remenisces about the times she and Short spent together before he left nearly 3 years ago. She is unhappy for most of September as Short's letters are not arriving. She confesses in her last September letter to burning some of Short's letters, in order to get rid of sad memories of their 'troubles' (it is not clear what exactly she is referring to) and only keep cheerful ones.
