Letters from John Short to Ella Ambrose October to December 1936.

Short is settling into his new job on the Isle of Wight. The couple continue seeing each other at the weekends and writing during the week. He writes about work, his landlady, his family and plans for Christmas. Short's mother dies in the last few days of October, and the first half of November's letters are written from Newcastle, as he is making funeral arrangements and caring for his father. By 17th November, Short is back on the Isle of Wight. His letter of 18th November encloses a Surplus Contribution Fund slip for £1 from Ambrose. They resume the routine of seeing each other at the weekend.
