A series of letters to and from John Marshall during November - December 1814 including a series of draft letters from John Marshall and a letter to Captain Marshall awarding him the Imperial Russian order of St George of the 4th Class and a knight of the Royal Swedish military Order of the Sword with wax seal.

Administrative / biographical background
The Order of Saint George was originally established November 26, 1769 as the highest military decoration of the Russian Empire by Empress Catherine the Great. The Order of the Sword is a Swedish order of chivalry created by King Frederick I of Sweden on February 23, 1748, awarded to officers and originally intended as an award for bravery and particularly long or useful service.
