Orders and receipts for money carried on HMS DIAMOND, 1796.
Orders and receipts received by Gosselin in command of HMS DIAMOND (1794), relating to money carried as freight for use in the occupation of the St Marcou Islands (Îles Saint-Marcouf), Normandy:
(1) Letter from Captain Thomas Peyton of HMS MINERVA (1780), directing Gosselin to supply Lieutenant Charlies Price of the gun vessel HMS BADGER (purchased 1794), commanding officer on the St Marcou Islands, with 100 dollars, dated 28 April 1796.
(2) Receipt for the above money received by Price and to be carried into execution as secret service by him, on account of orders from Captain Sir William S. Smith and Peyton.
(3) Letter from Peyton with directions to move a quantity of government money from the DIAMOND to the MINERVA, dated 30 April 1796.
(4) Receipt for the above money (7 bags and 2 casks) moved from the DIAMOND to the MINERVA, signed by Peyton, dated 30 April 1796.
