Letters to 2nd Earl of Shelburne concerning the court martial of Admiral Keppell, 1778-1779.

A series of letters from Jervis to Lord Shelburne covering the Court Martial of Admiral Keppel. This includes a letter explaining that Jervis was not able to attend court but could update His Lordship with the altercation that took part between Admiral Keppel and Sir Hugh Palliser. It also notes to a disagreement in court on the subject of leaving the ships logbook in the possession of the member of the court martial to prevent alteration of the log book. An account of William Burnaby cross examined following further evidence of Captain Windsor and Captain Hood whom made a speech before he started about his own logbook as he had expected to be charged with misconduct along with the rest of the Vice Admirals of the Blue Division. Cross examination of witnesses of Captain Robinson, Admiral Sheppel and master of the WORCESTER; the witnesses of the Second Lieutenant and master of the WORCESTER as well as Captain Blazeley of the FORMIDABLE. A later letter relating to the evidence of Captain Blazeley on the FORMIDABLE and the discovery made by Admiral Montague that the pages of the logbook dated 25 to 28 had been removed followed by Admiral Montague and Lord Mulgrave getting into an argument which delayed proceedings. Admiral Digby; Captain Mark Robinson and Goodall were of Hugh Palliser's division all gave evidence as did Captain Peyton, Admiral Sheppels, Fagal and Captain Walters (Palliser's nephew.)
