David William Leggatt (1916–1941) attended Dartmouth Naval College. In 1938 Leggatt attended HMS DOLHPIN, the submarine training school at Gosport. At the start of the war he was in HMS REGENT and transferred to HMS USK in March 1941, being based in the Mediterranean. In April that year, contact was lost with USK, during heavy anti-submarine activity off Sicily, and the submarine was never heard from again.
