Two letters from F. Maderny about his time in the secret service and asking for compensation.

The first letter is asking Evan Nepean for a meeting, the second letter is due to his meeting being declined he explains his circumstances of being recruited into the secret service by Gideon Duncan the Vice Consul and John Fitzpatrick. He ends up onboard the LYDIA were Fitzpatrick robbed him and thought he was going to die. He asks Evan Nepean for payment after suffering for the year for the British Government.

Administrative / biographical background
The National Archives have a letter from Rear Admiral Macbride at Deal [Kent] warning Evan Nepean [under-secretary] of the doubtful loyalty of John Fitzpatrick of Dunkirk, the owner of a vessel that he understood was to be used by Government, and even asking whether he was sure of 'D' [Gideon Duncan] the Vice-Consul.
