This is a detailed volume of illustrations of Steam Machinery and Steam Naval Architecture. This edition is a re-issue of Thomas Tredgold's last great work on the Steam Engines before he died in 1929. It contains One hundred and twenty-five engravings.

Administrative / biographical background
Thomas Tredgold was an English engineer and author his definition of civil engineering formed the basis of the charter of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He was born in Durham 1788 and after studying in a village school he became apprentice to a cabinet maker. It was during this time he studied mathematics architecture and perspective. In later years after his apprenticeship ended in 1808 and five further years as a joiner and journey carpenter he joined his uncle William Atkinson the Architect. He delved more into architecture, engineering and taught himself to speak French.
