Journal kept by Patrick Moir Davidson as a midshipman on HCS MARQUIS CAMDEN

Journal of the Proceedings on board the HCS MARQUIS CAMDEN from the port of London to St Helena, Bombay and China, Commanded by T. Larkins Esq. and kept by Patrick Moir Davidson, Midshipman. Includes a detailed list of the ship's crew, troops, passenger and convicts; court of enquiry on 25 August 1828 for John Babbage for drunkness; rigging being stuck by lightning on 23 March 1828 that killed two soldiers and wounded 5 seaman and logs for the ship when at harbour at the front of the book.

Administrative / biographical background
HCS MARQUIS CAMDEN is an East India Company ship. Captain Thomas Larkins faced several charges on his return from the 1828 voyage, including one charge of a 'challenge of personal combat on the poop' of the HCS MARQUIS CAMDEN on 26 March 1828 this is not recorded in the Log. He was later acquitted of these charges.
