Journal of William L. Aldous in the East India ship COUTTS, to China and back, 18 February 1814 to 19 August 1815; roughly bound with some loose watercolour and pencil sketches. Some loose pages and a cut out of an official East India Company logbook on 10 and 11 April 1814.
COUTTS reached Penang on 15 August, Malacca on 15 September, and Lintin on 22 October arriving at Whampoa on 10 December. Homeward bound, COUTTS crossed the Second Bar on 22 January 1815, reached St Helena on 13 May, and arrived at Long Reach on 24 August.
Administrative / biographical background
Captain Boyce sailed COUTTS from Portsmouth on 9 April 1814, bound for China. This was the last journey of COUTTS before being sold.
