Margaret Caroline Ralston, WRNS and WRAF.

Handwritten text of a talk about her service in the WRNS including training at Crystal Palace and posting to the seaplane station RNAS (later RAF) Calshot. Printed directive by Katharine Furse, Director of WRNS, to be kept in pocket book. Logbook of WRNS attached to RAF Calshot, with entries providing information on strength of personnel, health, events, etc., between 22 June 1918 and 30 November 1918. Two issues of the printed Calshot Seaplane Station magazine ‘Splash!’, containing photographs and illustrations, between July 1918 and January 1919 (Special Victory Number). Loose photographs including portraits of Ralston, RAF Calshot personnel, aerial views of Calshot Spit and nearby buildings at Eaglehurst and Lepe.

Administrative / biographical background
Ralston was born at Hampstead in London in 1884 and in civilian life she trained teachers of needlework and dressmaking. She was in the Women's Reserve Ambulance (Green Cross) Corps before being selected for WRNS officer training at Crystal Palace in February 1918. She was appointed assistant principal at the seaplane station RNAS Calshot in the Portsmouth Division in May 1918. She transferred to the WRAF at the end of October 1918.
