Logbook of HMS BEAGLE, Woolwich, Swan River, New South Wales, Cape of Good Hope, Australian Coast and Woolwich, 1 August 1839-6 June 1840. On 9 October 1839 Wickham named Port Darwin, which was first sighted by Stokes, in honour of their former shipmate Charles Darwin. Wickham and Stokes named a river 'Fitzmaurice' on 21 October 1839, after its discoverer Lewis Roper Fitzmaurice.
