Administrative / biographical background
Views, sketches and charts relating to the voyage of HMS ACHERON, surveying the coasts of New Zealand. Attempts have been made to identify the various artists at work but as Mrs Natusch points out it is extremely hard to do this satisfactorily. Therefore in the list only one (STK/71/17) is attributed to P. W. W. Oke, whose initials appear on it. Some are undoubtedly by W. J. W. Hamilton. Stoke's handwriting appears quite frequently, identifying places, sometimes prefixed by a question mark, indicating that he did this sometime later and could not always be certain of the location.
