In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Requiring the Commissioners for Victualling to pay promptly the Pursers who are able to buy back victauls from men not consuming them. Despite complaining about the lack of suitable storage space for butter and cheese, Pursers are to be instructed to manage as best they can. Commanders of ships and their officers are to assist them. Brewers employees are to be employed aboard ships and are to be present when Surveyors of Beer inspect their stock, in order to prevent wastage. Shipyard officers are to be responsible for ensuring that breadrooms are kept dry. Directions are given for the extra Clerks already working for the Commissioners of Victualling to be given salaries. The stores of ships coming into port for refitting are to be bought, if fit and necessary, on the best terms.
