Fatal voyage : the sinking of the USS Indianapolis /Dan Kurzman
Fatal Voyage is a narrative account of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in July 1945. The author undertook interviews with members of the Indianapolis, and the Japanese submarine I-58 which sank the American ship. The vast majority of the book is dedicated to the events from an American point of view, however there are passages (and in some instances, entire chapters) dedicated to the Japanese and their role in the events. The book provides a brief overview of the action that the USS Indianapolis saw before the sinking, however the majority of the book details the sinking itself and the days which the surviving crew members spent at sea. The author also details the fallout from the event back in America in the aftermath of the sinking. An appendix lists the crew of the Indianapolis and indicates which of them survived. There is also an extensive bibliography for further reading on the topic.
