G4256; Looking northwest across harbour from foreshore in front of Godhavn [also referred to as Lievely]. HMS Phoenix (1832), converted screw Sloop, at anchor in foreground, with storeship HMS Diligence (1814) background. Both ships with HMS Talbot (1824) anchored 18 June 1854 to transfer coal & stores, going northward to supply 'Franklin' search expedition under Captain Sir Edward Belcher in Canadian archipelago. They departed at 4.30pm on 5 July, with Diligence in ballast returning to England

G4272; A wooden bridge over a river with people perhaps washing clothes on the bank in the middle distance. The location is probably Holsteinsborg, where there is a small river close to the town. Masked by paper on the emulsion side of the negative.

G4260; Portrait photograph believed to be Jorgen Nielsen Moller, Governor of Holsteinborg, 1841-54, seated smoking hookah. Phoenix's log records the Governor & Inspector of North Greenland coming aboard Phoenix at 4.30am on Monday 2 July 1854 to dine with the Captain. The Phoenix, with her companion vessels Talbot and North Star, did not call at Holsteinborg on the return journey in September 1854 after evacuating Belcher's expedition.

G4273; A view of a rocky escarpment or outcrop with pockets of snow at an unidentified location. The photograph may possibly show coal seams - Inglefield spent several days looking for sources of coal and taking samples and sent a report to the Admiralty about brief experiments conducted onboard. 'The Times' reported on 5 October 1854 that Captain Inglefield had discovered a coal mine on the Waygat side of the Island of Disco, from which 80 tons of coal were taken on board, free of expense.

The two ships with storeship HMS Talbot, a converted Sixth Rate, arrived at Godhavn [also referred to as Lievely] on 18 June 1854, going northward to supply 'Franklin' search ships under Captain Sir Edward Belcher in the Canadian archipelago. Photograph shows Phoenix's funnel lowered & clothes hanging in rigging of Diligence.

G4258; Portrait photograph believed to be Donald Manson, Ice Master of converted screw Sloop Phoenix (1832). He is seated in his overcoat, scarf & highly-polished hat. According to Description Book for Phoenix Donald Manson was 5ft 5inches tall, 61 years old with grey hair, fresh complexion & grey eyes. Manson joined the ship, by Admiralty Appointment dated 28 February 1854, on 9 March 1854 at Woolwich.

G4263; A group photograph believed to be of Hans Elberg, Assistant [Lieutenant Governor] at Holsteinborg 1850-54, and later Governor 1854-73, with his wife Martha and three children. Their clothes represent a fusion between Inuit and Nordic clothing. Phoenix visited Holsteinborg between 8 and 17 June 1854.

G4264; An Inuit women, possibly a nurse, carrying a baby in a sling on her back, and a second woman standing beside her with hands raised to the nurse's shoulder. There is some masking paper on the emulsion side of the negative, and evidence of the background having been masked in the past. It is not known where this group was photographed. The Phoenix visited four settlements along the west coast of Greenland: Holsteinborg, Godhavn, Proven, and Upernarvick between 8 June and 21 July 1854.

G4268; An Inuit man dressed in European clothes with three Inuit women in traditional clothing. The upper garment of the woman on the right may be knitted wool (like the ones worn by the Danish official and his sons in G4263) and may represent a fusion between Inuit and Nordic clothing. The Inglefield Album held by the Royal Archives records that the people in the photograph are (l-r) Mother, Daughter, Fiance, and Sister-in-Law.
