Peasant holding up her skirt while paddling
An oil sketch by William Lionel Wyllie. It depicts a peasant woman holding up her skirt whilst paddling. The peasant woman is wearing a green skirt, green brown jacket and red wrap with a white cap over her brown hair. The sketch seems unfinished. The woman’s dress and hands have not been refined. The background of the sketch has not been completed nor has the water in which the woman paddles. The woman’s face seems to have been painted over. The majority of the background is made up of brown or grey ground with loose brushwork.
