On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Berwick (1959) alongside the south wall in No.3 basin at Chatham Dockyard, near the end of her modernization which commenced 4 December 1967 and completed 4 June 1971. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 27 and 31 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from 28 station on the port side showing the stairs up to 2 deck on the extreme left. A greatcoat locker, an automatic emergency lantern, a fire extinguisher, a distribution box and a Thermotank air conditioning unit are against the forward bulkhead. Two folding tables are stowed in the greatcoat locker. Two oiltight scuttles are in the deck next to the bulkhead. Kit lockers are on the right.
