The Motomachi shopping street in Kobe, Japan. Numerous international flags are hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the street, extending from the foreground to the background. A lighted sign with the words 'Kobe Mitsukoshi' is also hanging from the ceiling in the background. According to the photographer's autobiography, this photography was taken during the 'EXPO70'. people are walking along the street in the middle ground and background. A group of people are sitting down at table sin the foreground on the right hand side of the image. Metal pillars with electric lighted signs are set at intervals along the street, extending from the foreground to the background. This is Slide 1 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Second Officer on board the motor bulk carrier Wilkawa (1964) owned by Sir William Reardon Smith & Sons Ltd of Cardiff, from 17 May 1970 to 26 November 1970. This series consists of 83 slides.
