A 34 feet cutter from the Royal Navy battleship Victorious (1895) under sail at Gibraltar.
A slightly distant port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of a 34 feet cutter from the Royal Navy battleship Victorious (1895) under sail at Gibraltar. The boat is running before the wind and has a jib and mainsail set. The mainsail is set on a cross yard and boom and has three intermediate battens, reminiscent of a Chinese junk. It should be noted that the Victorious (1895) commissioned at Malta 16 May 1900 having just returned from China. A Royal Sovereign class battleship with awnings rigged fore and aft is in the background. Vertical format.
