On board the coasting barge John Bayly (1895) while under sail in the River Thames estuary.
On board the coasting barge John Bayly (1895) while under sail in the River Thames estuary, bound down. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the deck abaft the hatch looking forward. The hatch is covered and battened down and the dinghy is stowed on it. Note the damaged transom on the dinghy, broken in collision. Her bowsprit is topped and her mainsail is slightly reefed to clear the dinghy. The skipper and mate are holding ropes and a deckhand is looking over the starboard bow. The upper part of her mast is out of the picture. Vertical format.
