A general view of Margate harbour, Kent at low tide. The photographer is on the beach near the inland end of the pier looking south-west. A number of small boats are dried out and a few smacks are alongside the pier. The lighthouse on the end of the pier, built in 1828 and destroyed in 1953, is prominent.
