Hastings open sailing boat
A clinker-built Hastings open fishing boat regd RX41, 20ft or more in length, is seen beached, from the port beam. Amidships on the boat's starboard gunwale is a structure which may be a large capstan for hauling the boat's nets. The boat is described on the negative's envelope as having a centreboard; this is not mentioned in H. O. Hill's notebook, nor is it visible on the negative. The boat's lute stern design was common to beach boats of the Sussex coast.
