Emsworth fishing vessels laid up at Emsworth

The scallop boat Cymba (1893) is seen from astern, aground and supported by legs in the drying harbour of Emsworth, to the right of another cutter of similar or possibly identical lines. The Cymba's name and home port of Portsmouth are written on its counter stern, along with, in larger letters, the initials JDF, these letters also adorning the counter of the adjoining cutter. This latter boat's planking above deck is severely damaged, suggesting it was no longer in use when the photograph was taken. The view emphasises the extensive deadrise of each boat's keel. Part of the topsides of a barge moored to the right of the Cymba is visible on the far right of the image.
