Barge Lark at Itchenor, Chichester harbour
The sailing barge Lark is viewed from the starboard side, apparently laid up on mud at Itchenor. Light main and mizzen masts are stepped, with a spar lashed horizontally to each of them, perhaps to support a cover to protect a cargo or stored material in place of a sailing rig. The barge's considerable sheer, counter stern, large (because necessarily shallow) rudder and leeboards are all highlighted by the beam-on view. To the right beyond the Lark are some buildings on the shore; on the left, small boats afloat at their moorings.
