Coastal steamer Innisulva in Mount's Bay
In the foreground, seemingly viewed at a distance of approx. 1/4 mile from the deck of an unseen large vessel, is a coastal steamer at anchor, whose name 'Innisulva' is painted on its port bow. This ship was, according to the negative's envelope text, built by W. Chalmers & Co, Glasgow, and owned by C. Shaw Lovell & Sons Ltd. Moored in the distance are four three-masted barques, and a schooner-rigged yacht of some 100ft likely to have been built between 1890 and 1914. Sailing north-west towards Penzance are seven gaff-rigged fishing boats whose tall stems and steeply-raked sterns suggest them to be part of a Breton fishing fleet making for Newlyn.
