Dover galley punts taken about 1900
Three galley punts are beached in front of the Lord Warden hotel in Dover, the middle one of these having three crew seated in it, posed facing the camera. Unlike the other two, the nearest galley to the camera has its mast stepped and dipping lugsail rigged, while the sheet of this sail is held by the man in the helmsman's position in the central galley. These boats are shown to have less beamy hull shapes than the Deal galleys, and on the negative's envelope is written, "These four (sic) Dover boats have not half the freeboard the Deal boats have."
