Dover galley Princess
This view of the Dover galley Princess is taken from inside the boat looking astern from just forward of the foremost thwart, with a post set in a bracket before it and secured into a step on the keel below. Grooves in this post, apparently from wound rope, suggest its use in place of a winch for hauling nets. The thwart is reinforced by a steel bar visible on the starboard side, and the remaining thwarts are also propped at their centres by posts between thwart and floor. Behind the Princess are hotel buildings including the Lord Warden Hotel. The Chatham Directory of Inshore Craft records that the Princess was 29ft 1" in length, with a beam of 5ft 4" and a depth of 2ft.
